Warzone is a free to play Battle Royale game mode that connects both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops Call of Duty universes together for a new experience. Initially it was released as a free to play game mode under Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Then in July of 2020, Activision made Warzone it’s own game in the publisher’s library. Later that year, Treyarch released Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War on November 13th, 2020.
Then, Activision integrated both Black Ops and Modern Warfare universes together on December 16th, 2020 for one unified Call of Duty Warzone experience. Since the game is developed by multiple studios it’s best to get the patch notes directly from the studio communicating to the public at that time. Check out our dedicated patch notes section for more information.
Warzone Esports
The game mode has an extensive esports community and millions of dollars have been awarded to players across the world. Check out our section dedicated to Warzone esports for more information about tournaments, events, brackets, teams, streams, players, and stats.
Warzone Loadout and Class Options
One unique feature to Warzone is that you can build a class loadout and then retrieve it from inside the game. These loadouts can be purchased at buy boxes around the maps or sometimes they fall from the sky at random intervals in the match.

Warzone Maps
Warzone began with one very large map, Verdansk. Then, after the release of COD Black Ops Cold War Activision added a second map, Rebirth Island.
Verdansk
Verdansk was the first map released for Warzone. In addition to being a huge area to explore and conquer with your squad, trio, duo, or even by yourself, there are bunkers scattered all over the map. Check out our section dedicated to unlocking these bunkers.
Rebirth Island
Rebirth Island was the second map released for Warzone. It is a version of the popular Blackout map known as Alcatraz Island. It also came with it’s own version of a bunker with a yellow vault door. Check out our section dedicated to unlocking the Rebirth Island yellow door.
Warzone Vehicles
There are quite a few options for travel by vehicle when you don’t want to walk. You can also customize these vehicles’ skins, horns, radios, and other in game effects.
