vD defeats Collapse, completes incredible comeback
An epic run through the loser’s bracket is capped by two series wins to defeat Collapse.
After being sent to the loser’s bracket early in the day by Juked, vD had a long road ahead of them if they wanted to reach the finals. However, with experienced players like Nadeshot and Scump, and their talented duo of amateur players, they had no problem as they took each game on at a time. They completed consecutive sweeps over Team Bro and Dream Chasers to eliminate them from the tournament, and once again found themselves in a match up with a tough Juked group.
Juked had proved to be one of the teams to beat all weekend, after dropping only one series to Collapse. However, vD certainly had momentum on their side after a strong run through the loser’s bracket. They continued their hot streak as they eliminated Juked in straight maps to advance to the grand finals. There they would meet Collapse, who had not dropped a series all weekend long.
The difficult road would continue for vD in this final, because they came from the loser’s bracket, and Collapse was yet to drop a series, they would need to win two best of three’s while Collapse would just need one. They did have momentum in their favor, however, and Collapse had not played a match in three or four hours at that point. This long layoff looked to hurt Collapse early, as vD quickly picked up the first best of three series.
With the map count even, it would be the first team to win two maps who would take home the Codzilla championship. The talented vD squad took the first map in the second series with a 1-0 win on Lockdown CTF. With that win, vD stood one map away from a victory, and they looked to finish it on SnD Arkaden. Nadeshot held true to his reputation as an SnD all-star, dropping twelve kills with a thermal light machine gun to help his team take the final map 4-3.
The final series was surely one of the more exciting ones that we witnessed from the weekend.
